The Tiffen 4 x 5.65" IR T1/2 Filter is a near-infrared and infrared control filter designed for digital cinematography. Many digital cameras are designed to maximise their ability to capture red tones, and in this process, near-infrared or infrared contamination can occur. If the proportion of near-infrared or infrared light reaching the sensor of a digital cinematography camera becomes too great, the results can show undesirable colour shifts, particularly in dark areas of the image such as shadows where the appearance of black is dominant.
When the Tiffen 4 x 5.65" IR T1/2 Filter is used, near-infrared light waves beginning at 680 nm are blocked by approximately 45%. Infrared light waves at higher frequencies are further attenuated until an almost flat attenuation is achieved at 775-800 nm. This process helps ensure that the light falling on the camera sensor is limited to the visible spectrum. Potential near-infrared or infrared colour shifts are avoided or minimised, which preserves colour accuracy throughout the image. Whilst a Tiffen T1/2 IR filter is sufficient for many cameras, others may have sensors requiring a higher degree of near-infrared and infrared control, such as that provided by a Tiffen T1 IR filter.
This filter is manufactured from water white glass for increased clarity as well as colour fidelity. It is manufactured using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass, polished flat to within 1/10,000th of an inch.
- Designed for use with CCD or CMOS sensors to filter near-infrared and infrared light pollution that causes colour shifts frequently associated with high-definition recording
- Blocks near-infrared light waves beginning at 680 nm by approximately 45% until almost flat infrared attenuation is achieved at 775-800 nm
- Manufactured from water white glass for increased optical clarity
- No dichroic coating to further ensure colour accuracy
- 1.41x filter factor reduces exposure by 0.5 stop
- Padded pouch included for storage and transport
