The Tiffen 4 x 5.65" Low Contrast 5 filter reduces contrast across the entire image by creating a small amount of controlled flare near highlight areas. This achieves more detail in shaded regions, without affecting highlight values, to produce seemingly lower contrast. This filter is ideal for use in high-contrast midday lighting situations and other situations where it is difficult to control both overexposed highlights and underexposed shadows. Density 5 offers more contrast adjustment than the density 4 filter.

Tiffen filters are made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass and polishing it flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch. This filter measures 4 x 5.65" / 101.6 x 143.5 mm.
