Tiffen 4x5.65" Ultra Low Light Contrast 2 Filters - Bright lights or sunlight create problems when the ratio between highlight and shadow areas exceeds the film's latitude.
If you expose for the highlights, the shadows appear without detail. If you expose for the shadows, the result is washed out, with highlights that are too bright. Contrast reduction is achieved by lightening shadows without overexposing highlights or by darkening highlights without further darkening shadows.
Note: Tiffen Ultra Low Light Contrast filters are available in grades from 1/8 to 5, with No. 5 having the most significant effect
- Tiffen Low Light Contrast filters are more effective at managing contrast in low-light scenarios
- Tiffen Ultra Contrast filters work by using ambient light surrounding the image area as well as light within the image area itself
- They reduce contrast uniformly, with little or no loss of sharpness, throughout the scene even when there are different degrees of brightness in the image
- Shadow areas are opened up, revealing more detail, but without any halation or halos from direct light sources or bright reflections
- Even when filming directly facing the sun, no halation or halos occur
