The Tiffen 4 x 5.65" Ultra Contrast 1/4 Filter helps to lighten your shadows by using ambient light surrounding the image area as well as light within the image itself. It reduces contrast evenly throughout, with little or no loss of sharpness in the scene, even where there are varying degrees of brightness.nnShadow areas will reveal more detail but without any glare or halation from direct light sources or bright reflections. The Ultra Contrast filter works similarly to a Low Contrast filter from Tiffen, the difference being that it reduces contrast across the entire image whereas a Low Contrast filter will only open up shadows.nnThe Ultra Contrast 1/4 filter is the next step available with even more shadow detail revealed and contrast evenly lowered throughout the scene. Sharpness is not affected and no glare or halation is produced.nnTiffen's ColorCore glass is produced by a process that permanently laminates the filter material between two pieces of optical glass which are polished flat to tolerances of ten thousandths of an inch, then mounted in precision aluminium rings.nnn- Bright lights or sunlight create problems when the ratio between highlight and shadow areas exceeds the film's latitude; if you expose for highlights, shadows appear without detail; if you expose for shadows, the result is washed out, with overexposed highlightsn- Contrast reduction is achieved by lightening shadows without overexposing or dimming, or by darkening highlights without further darkening shadowsn- Even shooting directly into the sun produces no glare or halationnTiffen's ColorCore glass is sealed between two sheets of optical glass. In this way, Tiffen can better control the different densities of their filters and thus create more precise degrees of filtration. This process allows for greater colour accuracy compared to simply tinted glass which is subject to variations during the dyeing processnnnSpecificationsnn
