The Tiffen 4 x 4" Glimmerglass 1/2 Diffusion Filter is a unique way to give your portrait subject a clean, fresh and flattering appearance. This creative diffusion filter offers you a graduated way to choose the degree of filtration that will complement your subject. Whilst the Glimmerglass softens fine details such as blemishes, it also adds a soft, flattering glow to the shot that brings a heightened sense of glamour. The lighter grades of the filter are subtle whilst the higher grades will show significantly more diffusion.
The filter also reduces contrast, which will soften the harshness of the shot and present your subject in a more flattering light. The main feature of the Glimmerglass is that it produces a silver sparkle at the front of the filter that puts your subject at ease. This sparkle adds a psychological element to the shot that makes your subject more receptive and confident in the smooth running of the session. In this sense, the Glimmerglass is as effective to look at as it is to see through.
The Glimmerglass 1/2 always has a subtle effect but generates enough softness to provide a pleasing portrait with a soft glow around the bright areas. The contrast is lower than in the 1/4 version.
Tiffen ColorCore glass is produced by a process that involves permanently laminating the filter material between two pieces of optically flat polished glass with a tolerance of one ten-thousandth of an inch, then mounting them in precision aluminium rings.

Effective and functional
The glass itself has a distinct silver sparkle, which has proven doubly useful because when production begins and people see the filter glimmering on the front of the lens, they become more confident that the filter is working for them and can thus deliver a better performance
- Tiffen ColorCore glass is sealed between two sheets of optical glass. In this way, Tiffen can better control the different densities of their filters and thus create more precise degrees of filtration. This process allows for greater colour accuracy compared to simply tinted glass subject to variations during the dyeing process
