The Tiffen 40.5mm 1.2 Graduated Neutral Density Attenuator/Graduated Filter is densest at one edge where it corresponds to a 4-stop reduction of light entering the lens and fades to clear at the other edge. Its graduation can be used to selectively darken an image from edge to edge, allowing for wider apertures or reduced shutter speeds. While the 1.2 density of this graduated attenuator/graduated filter can be applied to bright skies, other regions of the image are exposed with a progressively decreasing effect. This filter is manufactured using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between two pieces of optical glass, grinding it to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, and then mounting it in precision metal rings.
