The Tiffen 82 mm Blue #47 filter is a filter designed to enhance contrast in black and white photography and create separation between tones. For landscape photography, the filter will accentuate haze and fog, creating a more dramatic appearance. Skin tones are lightened for greater detail and contrast control. Normally, the filter is intended for B&W photography, but can also be used in colour photography to create special effects. The filter has a filter factor of 4.5, so you need to increase your exposure by 2 1/3 stops to compensate. Tiffen filters are not tinted, but are manufactured using ColorCore technology. This process laminates the filter material between two pieces of optical glass, then the glass is ground and polished. The glass is finally mounted on the metal ring, which can be screwed onto the lens to achieve the desired effect.
