The Tiffen 86M Orange #21 Medium Thread filter is a filter designed to enhance contrast in black and white photography and create separation between tones. The filter absorbs blue and blue-green colours, making blues darker such as skies in landscape or aerial photography and water in marine shots. The filter has a filtration factor of 4.5, so you need to increase your exposure by 2 1/3 stops to compensate.
Tiffen filters are not tinted, but are manufactured using ColorCore technology. This process laminates the filter material between two pieces of optical glass, then the glass is polished. The glass is then mounted on the metal ring, which can be screwed onto the lens to achieve the desired effect.
