Tiffen 49 mm Low Contrast 1
The Tiffen 49mm Low Contrast 1 filter can be used to intentionally reduce contrast when taking photographs or recording videos. By redistributing illumination from brighter areas towards darker areas of a scene, this filter is useful for helping to balance the tonal range between highlights and shadows. Detail is increased in shadow regions whilst a halation effect around highlights is created, which can further enhance the appearance of a scene or produce a desired effect.
This filter has a grade of 1. Grades of 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 2, 3, 4 and 5 are also available, with the effect of this type of filter becoming approximately twice as strong with each increase in grade number.
This filter is manufactured using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass and grinding it flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch.
