Tiffen 49 mm Ultra Contrast 2
The Tiffen 49mm Ultra Contrast 2 filter can be used to intentionally reduce contrast when taking photos or recording videos. By distributing ambient lighting towards the darker areas of a scene, this filter helps to evenly balance the tonal range between highlights and shadows. Detail is increased in shadow areas whilst flare and halation around highlights are intentionally limited.
This filter has a grade of 2. Grades of 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 1, 3, 4 and 5 are also available, with the effect of this type of filter becoming approximately twice as strong with each increase in grade number.
This filter is manufactured using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass and polishing it to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch.
