Tiffen 49MM Ultra Contrast 5
The Tiffen 49 mm Ultra Contrast 5 filter can be used to deliberately reduce contrast when taking photographs or recording video. By distributing ambient lighting to the darker areas of a scene, this filter is useful for evenly balancing the tonal range between highlights and shadows. Detail is increased in shadow areas whilst flare and halation around highlights are deliberately limited.
This filter has a grade of 5. Grades 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 1, 2, 3 and 4 are also available, with the effect of this type of filter becoming approximately twice as strong with each increase in grade number.
This filter is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass and polishing it flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch.
