The Tiffen 52mm Soft Contrast 3 filter is a contrast-reducing filter that darkens highlights whilst maintaining shadow density in a scene. The effect of a light-absorbing element in this filter is visible in the highlights without requiring any change in overall exposure. Detail in bright areas is rendered more visible without a similar effect on dark areas. Tiffen Soft Contrast filters are available in numbered grades from one to five. Each higher grade corresponds to a more pronounced effect.
This filter is manufactured using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass, polishing it to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, then mounting it on precision metal rings.
