Tiffen 55MM Low Contrast 5
The Tiffen 55mm Low Contrast 5 filter can be used to deliberately reduce contrast when taking photographs or recording video. By redistributing illumination from brighter areas to darker areas of a scene, this filter is useful for balancing the tonal range between highlights and shadows. Detail is enhanced in shadow areas whilst a halo effect around highlights is created, which can further enhance the appearance of a scene or produce the desired effect.
This filter has a grade of 5. Grades 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 1, 2, 3 and 4 are also available, with the effect of this type of filter becoming approximately twice as strong with each increase in grade.
This filter is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass and grinding it flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch.
