Tiffen 55MM Ultra Contrast 5
The Tiffen 55mm Ultra Contrast 5 filter can be used to deliberately reduce contrast when taking photographs or recording video. By distributing ambient lighting towards the darkest areas of a scene, this filter is useful for evenly balancing the tonal range between highlights and shadows. Details are increased in shadow areas whilst haze and diffusion around highlights are deliberately limited.
This filter has a grade of 5. Grades 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 1, 2, 3 and 4 are also available, with the effect of this type of filter becoming approximately twice as strong with each grade increase.
This filter is manufactured using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass and grinding it flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch.
