This filter works by diffusing the light entering the lens with small aberrations; by distributing the light more evenly, a soft halo is created rather than a sharp, well-defined image when shooting without a filter. This filter has a density of 5, offering the greatest softening effect.
Tiffen filters are manufactured using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass, grinding it flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, then mounting it on precision metal rings.
