The Tiffen 55mm Black Pro-Mist 1/2 filter helps to reduce the intensity of highlights whilst slightly lowering overall contrast. This filter is particularly useful for softening and smoothing facial wrinkles and other blemishes. Although designed for cinematographic use, this filter can also be used for fashion and beauty applications. Unlike a traditional diffusion or blur filter, Pro-Mist filters cause minimal detail loss across the entire image. The 1/2 density provides more contrast and highlight reduction than the 1/4, but less than the 1, whilst offering a soft, pastel light quality.
Tiffen filters are manufactured using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass, grinding it flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, then mounting it on precision metal rings.
