This filter works by diffusing light entering the lens with small aberrations; by distributing light more evenly, it creates a soft glow rather than a sharp, well-defined image as when shooting without a filter. This filter has a density of 1/4, providing minimal softening.
Tiffen filters are manufactured using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass, grinding it flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, and then mounting it on precision metal rings.
