Tiffen 62MM Ultra Contrast 4
The Tiffen 62mm Ultra Contrast 4 filter can be used to intentionally reduce contrast when taking photographs or recording video. By distributing ambient illumination towards darker areas of a scene, this filter is useful for evenly balancing the tonal range between highlights and shadows. Detail is increased in shadow regions whilst highlights and halation around bright areas are intentionally limited.
This filter has a grade of 4. Grades of 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 1, 2, 3 and 5 are also available, with the effect of this type of filter becoming approximately twice as strong with each increase in grade number.
This filter is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass and polishing it flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch.
