The Tiffen 6.6 x 6.6" 1/4 Low Contrast filter acts to reduce contrast across the entire image by creating a small amount of controlled veiling near highlight areas. This allows more detail to be obtained in shadow areas without affecting highlight values, in order to produce an apparently lower contrast. This filter is ideal for use in midday conditions and other high-contrast situations where it is difficult to control both overexposed highlights and underexposed shadows. The 1/4 density offers less contrast adjustment than the 1/2 density, but more than the 1/8 density filter.

Tiffen filters are manufactured using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass and grinding it flat to a tolerance of one ten-thousandth of an inch. This filter measures 6.6 x 6.6" / 167.6 x 167.6 mm.
