The Tiffen 6.6 x 6.6" Soft/FX Black Pro-Mist 1/8 filter is a combination of the Soft/FX and Black Pro-Mist filters. The 1/2 density of the Soft/FX offers slight softening and diffuses the bright light entering the lens to produce a luminous effect. Although the resulting image appears softer and more ethereal, there is little loss of clarity or detail. This filter works by diffusing the light entering the lens with small aberrations; by distributing the light more evenly, a soft glow is created rather than the sharp and well-defined image obtained without a filter.

The Black Pro-Mist helps to reduce highlight values whilst slightly decreasing overall contrast. This filter is particularly useful for smoothing and softening facial wrinkles and other imperfections. Although designed for cinematographic use, this filter can also be used for fashion and beauty applications. Unlike traditional diffusion or blur filters, Pro-Mist filters result in little loss of detail across the entire image. The 1/8 density offers less contrast and highlight reduction than the 1/4, whilst allowing for a soft and pastel light quality.

Tiffen filters are manufactured using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass and polishing it to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch. This filter measures 6.6 x 6.6" / 167.6 x 167.6 mm.
