The Tiffen 6" Round Linear Polarising Filter - Reflected light rays become polarised. Polarising filters are used to select which light rays enter your lens. They can eliminate unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colours by providing better contrast.

The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and altered by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies depending on the rotation of the filter and its orientation relative to the sun.

If you are out on a beautiful day - in the mountains or at the beach - and want to capture a fabulous photograph of a sky full of clouds or make the water more saturated, then a polariser is the answer. This filter is the best way to bring out the clouds, increase or decrease the saturation of the ocean, or increase or decrease the reflection on water. You can also use this filter when shooting through glass or windows as it will again increase or decrease reflections.

If you are photographing in black and white and want to simulate a menacing storm, try adding a red #25 filter. The landscape will take on the appearance of an impending, threatening storm.

Along with a UV or Skylight filter, a polarising filter should be part of everyone's equipment. It can transform an ordinary image into a stunning creative photograph by increasing colour saturation.


Note: Linear polarisers are used with most video cameras and manual focus cameras. They are not recommended for autofocus SLR cameras.
