The Tiffen Black Pro-Mist 1/4 filter with 95 mm coarse thread helps reduce the intensity of highlights while slightly lowering overall contrast. This filter is particularly useful for softening and smoothing facial wrinkles and other imperfections. Although designed for cinematographic use, this filter can also be used for fashion and beauty applications. Unlike a traditional diffusion or blur filter, Pro-Mist filters offer little loss of detail across the entire image. The 1/4 density offers more contrast and highlight reduction than the 1/8, but less than the 1/2, while allowing a soft, pastel light quality.

Tiffen filters are manufactured using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass, grinding it flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, then mounting it on precision metal rings.
