The Tiffen Series 9 combined neutral density (ND) and infrared (IR) filter helps control colour shift due to IR contamination in digital videography, whether you're using a neutral density filter with an HDSLR camera or an HD camera. The CCD or CMOS sensor of a digital camera is inherently sensitive to infrared contamination, even when the manufacturer attempts to reduce this problem by adding an infrared-absorbing filter on the image sensor. Blacks become magenta and greens take on a muddy brown hue. Infrared light focuses at a different focal length from visible light; therefore, your images may appear slightly blurred. The more light you cut, the greater the IR contamination; so whether you're reducing light overall or wanting to create a shallow depth of field for a cinematic look, the more IR contamination you'll encounter.

ColorCore Technology


- Tiffen's ColorCore glass is sealed between two sheets of optical glass. In this way, Tiffen can better control the different densities of their filters and thus create more precise degrees of filtration. This process allows for greater colour accuracy compared to simply tinted glass which can be subject to deviations during the tinting process


Neutral density filters have four main uses
