The Tiffen 4 x 5.65" Soft/FX 1/4 filter can be used to intentionally reduce the appearance of blemishes and wrinkles in portraits or to apply a general softening effect whilst maintaining overall sharpness. An array of small lenses distributed across the surface of this filter softens fine lines and textures, which can be useful for creating a more flattering result of the subject.

This filter has a grade of 1/4. Grades 1/8, 1/2, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 are also available, with the effect of this type of filter becoming approximately twice as strong with each increase in grade. When higher grades are applied, a halo effect around bright areas can be created to further enhance the appearance of a subject or produce the desired effect.

This filter is made from optical glass to ensure clarity and colour fidelity, and is compatible with filter holders that can accommodate 4 x 5.65" rectangular filters with a thickness of 4 mm. It is manufactured using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between two pieces of optical glass and polishing it to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch.
