Soft/FX uses a different approach to manage the reduction of sharpness and resolution of an image. This is achieved through the distribution of numerous oval lenses of different intensities in the laminated glass. The resulting image is affected in a slightly different way from that obtained by acid etching of a digital diffusion filter.

Due to the size at which the internal lens can be produced, the light that is deflected on these internal lenses is refracted on the overall effect of the image. Therefore, the softness is more widely distributed across the image, which means that resolution is reduced to a greater degree at a lower density. The physical effect of this process also means that the diffusion of light deflected by the lenses in higher densities produces a slight halo around practical and specular light sources.
