The Tiffen 4 x 5.65" Black Satin 5 filter can be used to intentionally reduce the appearance of blemishes and wrinkles whilst providing a desired warming effect with granularity across the entire image. This can be useful for creating a more flattering result of a subject whilst highlights are softened, contrast is reduced and textures appear smoother. Additionally, halos around highlights are created, which can further enhance the appearance of a subject or produce a desired effect whilst maintaining overall sharpness.

This filter has a grade of 5. Grades 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 1, 2, 3 and 4 are also available, with the effect of this type of filter becoming approximately twice as strong with each increase in grade number.

This filter is manufactured from water-white glass for superior clarity and colour fidelity. It is manufactured using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass and grinding it flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch.
