The Tiffen 6.6 x 6.6" Black Satin 1/4 filter can be used to intentionally reduce the appearance of blemishes and wrinkles whilst providing a deliberate warming effect with grain across the entire image. This can be useful for creating a more flattering result of a subject whilst highlights are softened, contrast is reduced and textures take on a smoother appearance. In addition, halos around highlights are created, which can further enhance the appearance of a subject or produce a desired effect whilst maintaining overall sharpness.

This filter has a 1/4 grade. Grades of 1/8, 1/2, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 are also available, with the effect of this type of filter becoming approximately twice as strong with each increase in grade.

This filter is constructed from water white glass for increased clarity as well as colour fidelity. It is manufactured using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass and polishing it to a tolerance of one ten-thousandth of an inch.
