Tiffen Red Filter #25 (55mm)
 
The Tiffen 55mm Red Filter #25 is a filter designed to increase contrast in black and white photography and create tonal separation. Using this filter creates dramatic skies or simulates a moonlight scene in full daylight by slightly underexposing the image and also eliminating haze and fog. Infrared film is enhanced with extreme contrast, making skies even more dramatic and foliage white in landscape photographs. The filter has a filter factor of 8, so you need to increase your exposure by 3 stops to compensate.
Tiffen filters are not tinted, but are manufactured using ColorCore technology. This process laminates the filter material between two pieces of optical glass, then grinds and polishes the glass. The glass is then mounted on the metal ring, which can then be screwed onto the lens to achieve the desired effect.
