Tiffen #47 Blue Filter (55mm) 

The Tiffen 55mm #47 Blue Filter is a filter designed to create contrast in black and white photography and create separation between tones. For landscape photography, the filter accentuates haze and fog, creating a more dramatic appearance. Skin tones are lightened for more detail and better contrast control. Normally, the filter is intended for B&W photography, but can also be used in colour photography to create special effects. The filter has a filter factor of 4.5, so you need to increase your exposure by 2 1/3 stops to compensate.
Tiffen filters are not dyed, but are manufactured using ColorCore technology. This process involves laminating the filter material between two pieces of optical glass, then grinding and polishing the glass. The glass is then mounted on the metal ring, which can be screwed onto the lens to achieve the desired effect.
