Tiffen #12 Yellow Filter (49mm)
The Tiffen 49mm #12 Yellow Filter is a filter designed to increase contrast and tonal separation in black and white photography. The filter absorbs blue colours, making blues darker. Haze is minimised for aerial photography and excessive blue is eliminated for astrophotography. The #12 Yellow Filter is recommended as a base filter for use with Kodak Aero Ektachrome Infrared film. The filter has a filter factor of 2, so you need to increase your exposure by one full stop to compensate.
Tiffen filters are not dyed, but are manufactured using ColorCore technology. This process laminates the filter material between two pieces of optical glass, then the glass is polished. The glass is then mounted on the metal ring, which can then be screwed onto the lens to achieve the desired effect.
