Tiffen 55 mm 23A Red Filter

Increasing contrast for black and white work, this Tiffen 55 mm 23A red filter is used to noticeably darken cool blue tones to accentuate shadows and clouds. Offering superior tonal separation to ordinary yellow and orange contrast filters, the 23A light red is particularly suited to producing dramatic outdoor and landscape images. This filter has a filter factor of approximately 4x, requiring a 2-stop increase for normal exposure.
The filter is constructed using Tiffen's ColorCore technology, which involves laminating the filter material between two pieces of optical glass, ground flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, and mounted in an aluminium alloy ring.
- The light red filter produces the same effect as a Wratten 23A contrast filter, and helps darken blue tones whilst lightening warm orange and red tones in black and white photography.
- Commonly used in landscape photography to accentuate and darken blue skies and give more visual depth to clouds.
- Filter factor of 4 requires approximately 2 stops of additional exposure to maintain normal results.
- ColorCore technology, which permanently laminates the filter material between two pieces of optical glass, maintains image clarity, accuracy and consistency.
- The aluminium filter ring is both lightweight and durable.
