Tiffen #12 Yellow Filter (55mm)
The Tiffen 55mm Yellow #12 Filter is a filter designed to increase contrast and tonal separation in black and white photography. The filter absorbs blue colours, making blues darker. Haze is minimised for aerial photography and excess blue is eliminated for astrophotography. The Yellow #12 filter is recommended as a base filter for use with Kodak Aero Ektachrome infrared film. The filter has a filter factor of 2, so you need to increase your exposure by a full stop to compensate.
Tiffen filters are not tinted, but are manufactured using ColorCore technology. This process laminates the filter material between two optical glass elements, then the glass is polished and ground. The glass is then mounted on the metal ring, which can then be screwed onto the lens to achieve the desired effect.
