Tiffen 37 mm Digital Essentials Filter Kit

The Tiffen 37 mm Digital Essentials Filter Kit contains all the basics that an outdoor digital photographer needs.
UV Protector
These are wise initial investments. They help protect your valuable investment from dust, moisture and scratches, which can lead to costly repairs.
Circular Polariser
Reflected light rays become polarised. Polarising filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. They can eliminate unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colours, providing better contrast. The effect can be observed through the viewfinder and altered by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies depending on the rotation of the filter and its orientation to the sun.
Neutral Density
Tiffen's neutral density filters have several uses and offer the possibility of achieving results otherwise impossible. They allow the photographer to adjust exposure without affecting colour balance. ND filters appear grey and reduce the amount of light reaching either a digital camera's sensor or the film plane of a traditional camera. Neutral density filters are used to create unusual special effects such as capturing the "blur" of rippling water from a waterfall or the swirling effect of city traffic. As they allow the use of slower shutter speeds in bright light, it becomes possible to create these special effects which would normally not be possible to capture without the filter. And as they can also help control your depth of field, they allow you to photograph with wider apertures. Ultimately, their value lies in the help they provide in avoiding bright and overly washed-out images taken in full light.
The entire kit is supplied with a padded Tiffen storage pouch which will help keep your filters clean and free from dust, dirt, fingerprints and other contaminants.
Tiffen's ColorCore glass is produced by a process which permanently laminates the filter material between two pieces of optical glass, ground flat to tolerances of one ten-thousandth of an inch, then mounted in precision aluminium rings.
UV Protector
- Tiffen filters offer additional correction benefits for ultraviolet (UV) light which can register on film and videotape as a bluish cast and obscure distant details
- If desired, they can be left permanently on the lens for protection
Circular Polariser
- This filter eliminates ultraviolet rays to suppress haze in outdoor shots and polarises light to eliminate reflections and increase colour saturation, without affecting overall colour balance
- Makes a blue sky even bluer
- Enhances clouds
Neutral density filters have four main uses
- To allow the use of slow shutter speeds, particularly with high ISOs, to record movement of subjects such as waterfalls, clouds or cars
- To decrease depth of field by allowing the use of wider apertures, which helps separate subjects from their background
- To decrease the effective ISO of high-speed films (above 400 ISO) and allow their use outdoors in bright situations
- To allow film and video cameras (which have fixed shutter speeds) to film subjects such as snow, sand or other bright scenes which might cause overexposure
Tiffen Quality
Tiffen's ColorCore glass is sealed between two sheets of optical glass. In this way, Tiffen can better control the different densities of its filters and thus create more precise degrees of filtration. This process allows greater colour accuracy compared to simply tinted glass which can be subject to deviations during the tinting process
- Tiffen, the industry leader in filter manufacturing, proudly makes its filters in the USA and backs its products with a solid 10-year warranty
