Tiffen 46 mm Digital Essentials Filter Kit
The Tiffen 46 mm Digital Essentials Filter Kit contains all the basics an outdoor digital photographer needs.
UV Protector
These are wise initial investments. They help protect your valuable investment from dust, moisture and scratches, which can lead to costly repairs.
Circular Polariser
Reflected light rays become polarised. Polarising filters are used to select which light rays enter your lens. They can eliminate unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colours, providing better contrast. The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and modified by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies depending on the rotation of the filter and its orientation to the sun.
Neutral Density
Tiffen's neutral density filters have several uses and offer the possibility of achieving otherwise impossible results. They allow the photographer to adjust exposure without affecting colour balance. ND filters appear grey and reduce the amount of light reaching either a digital camera's sensor or the focal plane of a traditional camera. Neutral density filters are used to create certain unusual special effects such as capturing the "blur" of rippling water from a waterfall or the swirling effect of city traffic. As they allow the use of slower shutter speeds in bright light, it becomes possible to create these special effects that would not normally be possible to capture without the filter. And as they can also help control your depth of field, they allow you to photograph with wider apertures. Ultimately, their value lies in their ability to prevent bright and overly washed-out images taken in bright light.
The entire kit comes with a Tiffen padded storage pouch that will help keep your filters clean and free from dust, dirt, fingerprints and other contaminants.
Tiffen's ColorCore glass is produced by a process that involves permanently laminating the filter material between two pieces of optical glass, polished flat to a tolerance of one ten-thousandth of an inch, then mounted in precision aluminium rings.
UV Protector
- Tiffen filters offer additional correction benefits for ultraviolet (UV) light which can register on film and video tape as a bluish tint and can obscure distant details
- If desired, they can be left permanently on the lens for protection
Circular Polariser
- This filter eliminates ultraviolet rays to remove haze from outdoor shots and also polarises light to eliminate reflections and increase colour saturation, without affecting the overall colour balance
- Makes a blue sky bluer
- Emphasises clouds
Neutral density filters have four main uses
- To allow the use of slow shutter speeds, particularly with high ISOs, to record the motion of subjects such as waterfalls, clouds or cars
- To decrease depth of field by allowing the use of wider apertures, which helps separate subjects from their background
- To decrease the effective ISO of high-sensitivity films (above 400 ISO) and allow their use outdoors in bright situations
- To allow cinema and video cameras (which have fixed shutter speeds) to film subjects such as snow, sand or other bright scenes that could cause overexposure
Tiffen Quality
Tiffen's ColorCore glass is sealed between two sheets of optical glass. In this way, Tiffen can better control the different densities of its filters and thus create more precise degrees of filtration. This process allows for greater colour accuracy compared to simply tinted glass which can be subject to deviations during the tinting process
- Tiffen, the filter industry leader, proudly manufactures its filters in the United States and backs its products with a solid 10-year warranty
