Tiffen 49 mm Digital Essentials filter kit
The Tiffen 49 mm Digital Essentials filter kit contains all the basics that an outdoor digital photographer needs.
UV protection
These are wise initial investments. They help protect your valuable investment from dust, moisture and scratches, which can lead to costly repairs.
Circular polariser
Light rays that are reflected become polarised. Polarising filters are used to select which light rays enter your lens. They can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colours by offering better contrast. The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and modified by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies depending on the rotation of the filter and its orientation relative to the sun.
Neutral density
Tiffen neutral density filters have several uses and offer the possibility of achieving results that would otherwise be impossible. They allow the photographer to adjust exposure without affecting colour balance. ND filters appear grey and reduce the amount of light reaching either a digital camera's sensor or a traditional camera's film plane. Neutral density filters are used to create certain unusual special effects such as capturing the "blur" of rippling waterfall water or the swirling effect of urban traffic. Because they allow the use of slower shutter speeds in bright light, it becomes possible to create these special effects which would normally not be possible to capture without the filter. And because they can also help control your depth of field, they allow you to photograph with larger apertures. Ultimately, their value lies in their help in preventing bright and excessively washed-out images taken in bright light.
The entire kit comes with a padded Tiffen storage pouch that will help keep your filters clean and free from dust, dirt, fingerprints and other contaminants.
Tiffen ColorCore glass is produced by a process that involves permanently laminating the filter material between two pieces of optical glass that are ground flat to tolerances of one ten-thousandth of an inch, then mounted in precision aluminium rings.
UV protection
- Tiffen filters offer additional correction benefits for ultraviolet (UV) light which can be recorded on film and videotape as a blue cast and can mask distant details
- If desired, they can be left permanently on the lens for protection
Circular polariser
- This filter eliminates ultraviolet rays to suppress haze from outdoor shots and polarises light to eliminate reflections and increase colour saturation, without affecting the overall colour balance
- Makes a blue sky bluer
- Enhances clouds
Neutral density filters have four main uses
- To enable the use of slow shutter speeds, particularly with high ISOs, to record the movement of subjects such as waterfalls, clouds or cars
- To decrease depth of field by allowing wider apertures to be used, which helps separate subjects from their background
- To decrease the effective ISO of high-speed films (above ISO 400) and allow their use outdoors in bright lighting situations
- To enable cinema and video cameras (which have fixed shutter speeds) to film subjects such as snow, sand or other bright scenes that could cause overexposure
Tiffen quality
Tiffen ColorCore glass is sealed between two sheets of optical glass. In this way, Tiffen can better control the varying densities of their filters and thus create more precise degrees of filtration. This process allows for greater colour accuracy compared to glass that is simply tinted and becomes subject to deviations during the tinting process
- Tiffen, the industry leader in filters, proudly manufactures its filters in the United States and backs its products with a solid 10-year warranty
