Tiffen 52mm Black & White Three-Filter Kit
The Tiffen 52mm Black & White Three-Filter Kit combines the essential contrast filters yellow #6, green #13 and red #25, with a four-filter pouch, to provide a convenient solution for producing different degrees of contrast when using black and white film.
Tiffen filters are manufactured using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 optical glass plates, grinding flat to within one ten-thousandth of an inch tolerance, then mounting onto precision metal rings.
Light Yellow 1 #6 52mm Filter
A Tiffen 52mm Light Yellow #6 Filter is used for a slight increase in contrast with black and white films. Although less strong than a traditional yellow #8, it can still be used to make a difference in your photography. You will find that it increases your contrast just enough to make the difference between a black and white print that looks "flat" and one that displays appropriate correction.
Tiffen ColorCore glass is produced by a process that involves permanently laminating the filter material between two optical glass plates, ground flat to within one ten-thousandth of an inch tolerance, then mounted in precision aluminium rings.
- Particularly useful for adding contrast between a blue sky with clouds and the foreground
- Tiffen ColorCore glass is sealed between two optical glass plates. In this way, Tiffen can better control the different densities of its filters and thus create more precise degrees of filtration. This process allows greater colour accuracy compared to simply tinted glass which may be subject to variations during the tinting process
- Tiffen, a leader in the filter industry, proudly manufactures its filters in the United States and backs its products with a solid 10-year warranty

Green #13 (2) 52mm Filter
The Tiffen 52mm Green #13 (2) Filter is a basic contrast filter, primarily intended for use with black and white film. This green filter subtly darkens skies and lightens foliage. It is commonly associated with use in portraiture and achieving better separation between skin tones and outdoor backgrounds. Compared to the yellow-green #11 filter, the #13 helps to further lighten foliage and other green-coloured subjects.
This filter has a filter factor of 2x, requiring a 1-stop increase for normal exposure. Tiffen filters are manufactured using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 optical glass plates, grinding flat to within one ten-thousandth of an inch tolerance, then mounting onto precision metal rings.

Red #25 (52mm) Filter
The Tiffen 52mm Red #25 Filter is a filter designed to enhance contrast in black and white photography and create separation between tones. Using this filter creates spectacular skies or simulates a moonlit scene during the day by slightly underexposing the image and also eliminating haze and fog. Infrared film is enhanced with extreme contrast, making skies even more spectacular and turning foliage white in landscape photographs. The filter has a filter factor of 8, so you need to increase your exposure by 3 stops to compensate.
Tiffen filters are not tinted, but are manufactured using ColorCore technology. This process laminates the filter material between two optical glass plates and grinds and polishes the glass. The glass is then mounted on the metal ring, which can then be screwed onto the lens to achieve the desired effect.
