The Tiffen 52 mm Digital neutral density filter kit is a complete set of filters to help you achieve better shots in bright light as well as to assist you in creating special effects images.
Neutral density filters have several uses and offer the ability to achieve results that would otherwise be impossible. They allow the photographer to adjust exposure without affecting colour balance. ND filters appear grey and reduce the amount of light reaching the film.
Determining which neutral density filter gives ideal results for a given lighting situation requires knowledge, experience and a collection of such filters. Generally, the 2-stop value (ND 0.6) effectively compensates for average situations.
 
Neutral density filters have four main uses
- To enable the use of slow shutter speeds, particularly with high-speed films, to capture motion of subjects such as waterfalls, clouds or cars
- To reduce depth of field by enabling the use of wider apertures, which helps to separate subjects from their background
- To decrease the effective ISO sensitivity of high-speed films (above ISO 400) and allow their use outdoors in bright situations
- To allow film and video cameras (which have fixed shutter speeds) to film subjects such as snow, sand or other bright scenes that could cause overexposure
 
Neutral density factors
- ND.6 (exposure adjustment = 2 stops, reduces ISO sensitivity by 1/4)
- ND.9 (exposure adjustment = 3 stops, reduces ISO sensitivity by 1/8)
- ND1.2 (exposure adjustment = 4 stops, reduces ISO sensitivity by 1/16)
