The Tiffen 58mm Black and White Three Filter Kit combines the essential contrast filters Yellow #6, Green #13 and Red #25, with a four-pocket pouch, to offer a practical solution for producing different degrees of contrast when using black and white film.
Tiffen filters are manufactured using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass, polishing it flat to a tolerance of 10,000th of an inch, then mounting it on precision metal rings.
 
Light Yellow 1 #6 58mm Filter
A Tiffen 58mm Light Yellow #6 filter is used for a slight increase in contrast with black and white film. Although less powerful than a traditional Yellow #8, it can still be used to make a difference in your photography. You will find that it increases your contrast just enough to make the difference between a black and white print that appears "flat" and one that displays the appropriate correction.
Tiffen ColorCore glass is produced by a process that involves permanently laminating the filter material between two pieces of optical glass which are polished flat to tolerances of one ten-thousandth of an inch, then mounted in precision aluminium rings.
- Particularly useful for adding contrast between blue sky with clouds and the foreground

Green #13 (2) 58mm Filter
The Tiffen 58mm Green #13 (2) filter is a basic contrast filter, primarily intended for use with black and white film. This green filter subtly darkens skies and lightens foliage. It is commonly used for portraits and to achieve better separation between skin tones and outdoor backgrounds. Compared to the yellow-green #11 filter, the #13 helps to further lighten foliage and other green-coloured subjects.
There is a 2x filter factor with this filter, requiring a 1 stop increase for normal exposure. Red #25 Filter (58mm)
The Tiffen 58mm Red #25 filter is a filter designed to create contrast in black and white photography and create tonal separation. Using this filter creates dramatic skies or simulates a moonlit scene during the day by slightly underexposing the image and also eliminating fog and haze. Infrared film is enhanced with extreme contrast making skies even more dramatic and turning foliage white in landscape photographs. The filter has a filter factor of 8, so you need to increase your exposure by 3 stops to compensate.
Tiffen filters are not tinted, but are manufactured using ColorCore technology. This process laminates the filter material between two pieces of optical glass and polishes the glass. The glass is then mounted on the metal ring, which can then be screwed onto the lens to achieve the desired effect.
