Tiffen 58mm Digital Essentials Filter Kit

The Tiffen 58mm Digital Essentials Filter Kit contains all the basic elements an outdoor digital photographer needs.

UV Filter
These are wise initial investments. They help protect your valuable investment from dust, moisture and scratches, which can lead to costly repairs.

Circular Polariser
Light rays that are reflected become polarised. Polarising filters are used to select which light rays enter your lens. They can eliminate unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colours, offering better contrast. The effect can be viewed through the viewfinder and altered by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies depending on the rotation of the filter and its orientation to the sun.

Neutral Density
Tiffen's neutral density filters have several uses and offer the possibility of achieving results otherwise impossible. They enable the photographer to adjust exposure without affecting colour balance. ND filters appear grey and reduce the amount of light reaching either a digital camera's sensor or the film plane of a traditional camera. Neutral density filters are used to create unusual special effects such as capturing the "blur" of water flowing from a waterfall or the swirling effect of city traffic. As they permit the use of slower shutter speeds in full light, it becomes possible to create these special effects which would not normally be possible to capture without the filter. And as they can also help control your depth of field, they allow you to photograph with wider apertures. Ultimately, their value lies in their ability to prevent overexposed and washed-out images taken in full light.
The entire kit comes with a padded Tiffen storage pouch that will help keep your filters clean and free from dust, dirt, fingerprints and other contaminants.
Tiffen's ColorCore glass is produced by a process that involves permanently laminating the filter material between two pieces of optical glass that are ground flat to tolerances of one ten-thousandth of an inch, then mounted in precision aluminium rings.

UV Filter
- Tiffen filters offer additional correction benefits for ultraviolet (UV) light which can register on film and videotape as a bluish cast and can obscure distant details
- If desired, they can be left permanently on the lens for protection

Circular Polariser
- This filter eliminates ultraviolet rays to suppress haze in outdoor shooting and polarises light to eliminate reflections and increase colour saturation, without affecting the overall colour balance
- Makes a blue sky bluer
Accentuates Clouds

Neutral density filters have four main uses
- To enable the use of slow shutter speeds, particularly with high ISO sensitivities, to record movement of subjects such as waterfalls, clouds or cars
- To decrease depth of field by permitting the use of wider apertures, which helps separate subjects from their background
- To decrease the effective ISO sensitivity of high-speed films (above 400 ISO) and allow their use outdoors in bright lighting situations
- To enable film and video cameras (which have fixed shutter speeds) to film subjects such as snow, sand or other bright scenes which could cause overexposure

Tiffen Quality
Tiffen's ColorCore glass is sealed between two sheets of optical glass. In this way, Tiffen can better control the different densities of its filters and thus create more precise degrees of filtration. This process allows for greater colour accuracy compared to simply tinted glass which can be subject to deviations during the colouring process
- Tiffen, the industry leader in filters, proudly manufactures its filters in the United States and supports its products with a solid 10-year warranty
