Tiffen 58mm Digital Light Control Filter Kit
The Tiffen 58mm Digital Light Control Filter Kit contains three very useful filters for achieving better control of exposure results and overall image appearance. These filters, a circular polariser, a 0.6 full neutral density filter and a 0.6 graduated neutral density filter, are perfectly suited for use with digital SLR cameras due to their increased sensitivity to light. Each of these filters can offer a unique advantage for working in challenging lighting conditions to produce well-exposed and balanced images.
Each of these filters measures 58 mm and they are presented in a padded nylon protective pouch for transport.
Circular Polariser
A circular polariser helps reduce reflections and glare by filtering light that has become polarised due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. This results in a noticeable increase in saturation of skies and foliage, as well as clearer images when shooting in hazy conditions. A circular polariser differs from a linear polariser in that it allows full use of a camera's autofocus and auto-exposure functions.
Full Neutral Density
A full neutral density filter creates a general and uniform darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. By slowing down your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and more easily convey motion. Neutral density filters do not affect the colouring of the image and are ideal for pairing with other filters. This filter has a density of 0.6, which provides a two-stop exposure reduction.
Graduated Neutral Density
A graduated neutral density filter helps specifically darken skies and other bright areas of the image whilst allowing part of the image to remain unaffected by filtration. The filter is denser on the edge and fades to transparent in the middle, with a gradual line between the dense and transparent areas. This filter also has a density of 0.6, which provides a two-stop exposure reduction for the area covered by the density.
Tiffen ColorCore Technology
Tiffen filters are manufactured using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass, grinding it flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, then mounting it in precision metal rings.
