Tiffen 62 mm Digital Essentials Filter Kit
The Tiffen 62 mm Digital Essentials Filter Kit contains all the basics that an outdoor digital photographer needs.
UV Filter
These are wise initial investments. They help to protect your precious investment from dust, moisture and scratches, which can lead to costly repairs.
Circular Polariser
Reflected light rays become polarised. Polarising filters are used to select which light rays enter your lens. They can eliminate unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colours, providing better contrast. The effect can be observed through the viewfinder and altered by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies according to the rotation of the filter and its orientation to the sun.
Neutral Density
Tiffen's neutral density filters have several uses and offer the possibility of achieving results that would otherwise be impossible. They allow the photographer to adjust exposure without affecting colour balance. ND filters appear grey and reduce the amount of light reaching either a digital camera's sensor or a traditional camera's film plane. Neutral density filters are used to create unusual special effects such as capturing the "blur" of rippling water in a waterfall or the swirling effect of city traffic. Because they allow the use of slower shutter speeds in bright light, it becomes possible to create these special effects that would not normally be possible to capture without the filter. And because they can also help to control your depth of field, they allow you to photograph with wider apertures. Ultimately, their value lies in helping to avoid bright and excessively washed-out images taken in bright light.
The entire kit comes with a padded Tiffen storage pouch that will help keep your filters clean and free from dust, dirt, fingerprints and other contaminants.
Tiffen's ColorCore glass is produced by a process that involves permanently laminating the filter material between two pieces of optical glass which are polished flat to tolerances of one ten-thousandth of an inch, then mounted in precision aluminium rings.
UV Filter
- Tiffen filters offer additional correction benefits for ultraviolet (UV) light which can register on film and video tape as a bluish cast and can obscure distant details
- If desired, they can be left on the lens permanently for protection
Circular Polariser
- This filter eliminates ultraviolet rays to suppress haze in outdoor shots and also polarises light to eliminate reflections and increase colour saturation, without affecting the overall colour balance
- Makes a blue sky even bluer
- Enhances clouds
Neutral density filters have four main uses
- To enable the use of slow shutter speeds, particularly with high ISOs, to record the motion of subjects such as waterfalls, clouds or cars
- To decrease depth of field by enabling the use of wider apertures, which helps to separate subjects from their background
- To decrease the effective ISO of high-sensitivity films (above 400 ISO) and allow their use outdoors in bright situations
- To enable film and video cameras (which have fixed shutter speeds) to film subjects such as snow, sand or other bright scenes that could cause overexposure
Tiffen Quality
Tiffen's ColorCore glass is sealed between two sheets of optical glass. In this way, Tiffen can better control the different densities of their filters and thus create more precise degrees of filtration. This process allows for greater colour accuracy compared to simply tinted glass which is prone to variations during the colouring process
- Tiffen, a leader in the filter industry, proudly manufactures its filters in the United States and supports its products with a solid 10-year warranty
