Tiffen 72mm Black & White Three Filter Kit
The Tiffen 72mm Black & White Three Filter Kit combines the essential Yellow #6, Green #13 and Red #25 contrast filters, with a four-pocket filter pouch, to provide a convenient solution for producing different degrees of contrast when using black and white film.
Tiffen filters are manufactured using ColorCore technology, a process that laminates the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass, grinding it flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, then mounting it in precision metal rings.
Yellow Filter #6 72 mm
The Tiffen 72mm Yellow #6 Filter is a basic contrast filter, primarily used with black and white film. This yellow filter slightly darkens skies, helps eliminate haze and improves overall contrast. It is a common contrast filter in black and white photography, producing an accurate tonal range and partially compensating for the blue sensitivity of panchromatic film.
This filter has a filter factor of 1.5x, requiring a 0.6 stop increase for normal exposure. Tiffen filters are manufactured using ColorCore technology, a process that laminates the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass, grinding it flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, then mounting it in precision metal rings.
- The yellow contrast filter for black and white film subtly darkens skies, eliminates haze and offers slightly higher contrast overall.
- Produces accurate tones and partially compensates for the blue sensitivity of panchromatic film.

Green Filter #13 (2) 72 mm
The Tiffen 72mm Green #13 (2) Filter is a basic contrast filter, primarily used with black and white film. This green filter subtly darkens skies and lightens vegetation. It is commonly used in portrait photography and helps achieve better separation between skin tones and outdoor backgrounds. Compared to the Yellow-Green #11 filter, the #13 helps to further lighten vegetation and other green-coloured subjects.
This filter has a filter factor of 2x, requiring a 1 stop increase for normal exposure. Tiffen filters are manufactured using ColorCore technology, a process that laminates the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass, grinding it flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, then mounting it in precision metal rings.

Red Filter #25 (72 mm)
The Tiffen 72mm Red #25 Filter is a filter designed to enhance contrast in black and white photography and create separation between tones. This filter creates dramatic skies or simulates a moonlit scene during the day by slightly underexposing the image and also eliminating fog and haze. Infrared film is enhanced with extreme contrast, making skies even more dramatic and vegetation white in landscape photographs. The filter has a filter factor of 8, so you need to increase your exposure by 3 stops to compensate.
Tiffen filters are not tinted, but are manufactured using ColorCore technology. This process laminates the filter material between two pieces of optical glass, then grinds and polishes the glass. The glass is then mounted on the metal ring, which can then be screwed onto the lens to achieve the desired effect.
- Enhances contrast and tonal separation
- Extreme contrast with infrared film
