The Tiffen 72mm Digital Neutral Density Filter Kit is a complete set of filters to help you achieve better shots in bright light as well as create special effects images.
Neutral density filters have several uses and offer the possibility of achieving results otherwise impossible. They enable the photographer to adjust exposure without affecting colour balance. ND filters appear grey and reduce the amount of light reaching the film.
Determining which neutral density filter gives ideal results for a given lighting situation requires knowledge, experience and a collection of such filters. Generally, the 2-stop value (ND 0.6) effectively compensates for average situations.
 
Neutral density filters have four main uses
- To enable the use of slow shutter speeds, particularly with high-speed films, to record movement in subjects such as waterfalls, clouds or cars
- To decrease depth of field by allowing wider apertures to be used, which helps to separate subjects from their background
- To reduce the effective ISO of high-speed films (above 400 ISO) and allow their use outdoors in bright situations
- To enable cine and video cameras (which have fixed shutter speeds) to film subjects such as snow, sand or other bright scenes that could cause overexposure
 
Neutral Density Factors
- ND0.6 (exposure adjustment = 2 stops, reduces ISO by one quarter)
- ND0.9 (exposure adjustment = 3 stops, reduces ISO by one eighth)
- ND1.2 (exposure adjustment = 4 stops, reduces ISO by one sixteenth)
