Tiffen 77mm Digital Light Control Filter Kit
The Tiffen 77mm Digital Light Control Filter Kit contains three very useful filters to help achieve better control over exposure results and overall image appearance. These filters—a circular polariser, a 0.6 neutral density filter, and a 0.6 graduated neutral density filter—are particularly well suited for use with digital SLR cameras due to their increased sensitivity to light. Each of these filters can provide a unique advantage when working in challenging lighting conditions to produce well-exposed and balanced images.
Each of these filters measures 77mm and they are presented in a padded nylon protective case for transport.
Circular Polariser
A circular polariser helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering light that has become polarised due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. This results in a noticeable increase in the saturation of skies and foliage, as well as clearer images when shooting in hazy conditions. A circular polariser differs from a linear polariser in that it supports the full use of a camera's autofocus and auto-exposure functions.
Neutral Density Filter
A neutral density filter creates a uniform, overall darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than would normally be required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you can more easily control depth of field and convey movement. Neutral density filters do not affect the colouration of the image and are ideal for pairing with other filters. This filter has a density of 0.6, providing a two-stop reduction in exposure.
Graduated Neutral Density Filter
A graduated neutral density filter helps to specifically darken skies and other bright areas of the image whilst allowing a portion of the image to remain unaffected by filtration. The filter is denser at the edge and tapers to clear by the middle, with a gradual line between the dense and clear areas. This filter also has a density of 0.6, providing a two-stop reduction in exposure for the area covered by the density.
Tiffen ColorCore Technology
Tiffen filters are manufactured using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass, grinding it to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, and then mounting it in precision metal rings.
