Tiffen 82 mm Digital Essentials Filter Kit
The Tiffen 82 mm Digital Essentials Filter Kit contains all the basics an outdoor digital photographer needs.
UV Protector
These are wise initial investments. They help protect your valuable investment from dust, moisture and scratches, which can lead to costly repairs.
Circular Polariser
Light rays that are reflected become polarised. Polarising filters are used to select which light rays enter your lens. They can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colours by providing better contrast. The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and modified by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies depending on the rotation of the filter and its orientation to the sun.
Neutral Density
Tiffen's neutral density filters have several uses and offer the possibility of achieving results that would otherwise be impossible. They enable the photographer to adjust exposure without affecting colour balance. ND filters appear grey and reduce the amount of light reaching either the sensor of a digital camera or the film plane of a traditional camera. Neutral density filters are used to create certain unusual special effects such as capturing the "blur" of water flowing from a waterfall or the swirling effect of city traffic. As they allow the use of slower shutter speeds in bright light, it becomes possible to create these special effects that would not normally be possible to capture without the filter. And as they can also help control your depth of field, they enable you to photograph with wider apertures. Ultimately, their value lies in helping to avoid overexposed and washed-out images taken in bright light.
The complete kit comes with a Tiffen padded storage pouch that will help keep your filters clean and free from dust, dirt, fingerprints and other contaminants.
Tiffen's ColorCore glass is produced by a process that permanently laminates the filter material between two pieces of optical glass which are ground flat to tolerances of one ten-thousandth of an inch, then mounted in precision aluminium rings.
UV Protector
- Tiffen filters offer additional correction benefits for ultraviolet (UV) light which can register on film and videotape as a bluish cast and can obscure distant details
- If desired, they can remain on the lens permanently for protection
Circular Polariser
- This filter eliminates ultraviolet rays to remove haze from outdoor shots and also polarises light to eliminate reflections and increase colour saturation, without affecting the overall colour balance
- Makes a blue sky bluer
- Enhances clouds
Neutral density filters have four main uses
- To enable the use of slow shutter speeds, particularly with high ISOs, to record motion in subjects such as waterfalls, clouds or cars
- To decrease depth of field by enabling the use of wider apertures, which helps separate subjects from their background
- To decrease the effective ISO of high-sensitivity films (above 400 ISO) and enable their use outdoors in bright situations
- To enable cinema and video cameras (which have fixed shutter speeds) to film subjects such as snow, sand or other bright scenes that could cause overexposure
Tiffen Quality
Tiffen's ColorCore glass is sealed between two sheets of optical glass. In this way, Tiffen can better control the different densities of their filters and thus create more precise degrees of filtration. This process allows greater colour accuracy compared to simply tinted glass which can be subject to variations during the tinting process
- Tiffen, an industry leader in filters, proudly manufactures its filters in the United States and supports its products with a solid 10-year warranty
