Tiffen 77 mm Indie Pro Infrared/Neutral Density Filter Kit (IR/ND filters 0.3, 0.6, 0.9, 1.2, 1.5, 1.8, 2.1)
The Tiffen 77 mm Indie Pro Infrared/Neutral Density Filter Kit is a more than complete set of filters (7 filters) for the outdoor photographer who wants to create special effects without having to spend time in post-production. This combination of neutral density filters gives you the freedom to create unique and effective images that would not normally be possible.
Colour shift is a crucial factor in digital photography. This colour shift is directly affected by the infrared spectrum. Specifically, in high-definition photography, the sensitivity of image sensors to IR has become a challenge. This is particularly evident when using standard neutral density filters that absorb visible light but allow infrared through.
Unlike many photographic films, the CCD or CMOS of a digital camera is inherently sensitive to infrared contamination, even when the manufacturer attempts to reduce this problem by adding an infrared-absorbing filter above the image sensor. As these filters do not have a sharp cut-off at infrared wavelengths, a compromise must be made to avoid excluding visible red wavelengths. This results in some infrared wavelengths being allowed through.
Although minor infrared contamination does not normally cause many problems for visible images, when using conventional neutral density filters, particularly higher densities, this problem is multiplied by the filter factor.
Tiffen has now solved this problem with the introduction of its exclusive range of IR/ND filters. This is particularly important as it now allows the use of the strongest densities of neutral density filters required for these light-sensitive cameras whilst maintaining complete colour balance.
The kit contains a set of ND filters of 1 stop (0.3), 2 stops (0.6), 3 stops (0.9), 4 stops (1.2), 5 stops (1.5), 6 stops (1.8) and 7 stops (2.1). Using these filters allows you to use slower shutter speeds which can produce blur effects on nature, sports or any action of your choice, such as flowing water, birds in flight, cars - practically anything you can imagine. This also enables beach or bright light photography when using high ISO settings by allowing the use of slower shutter speeds. Whatever medium you use, such as film, digital, video or cinema, neutral density filters are highly valuable and should be part of every photographer's tool arsenal.
It is often necessary or desirable to control light intensity in a given image. This is particularly true in situations where you do not have complete control of the light, such as in bright and contrasty landscapes. Exposing for the foreground will produce a washed-out and overexposed sky, whilst exposing for the sky will leave the foreground dark and underexposed. A neutral density filter will allow you to maintain exposure control without affecting the colour of the image.
Neutral density filters allow you to photograph in conditions that would normally be impossible - particularly outdoors in snow, on the beach or in extremely bright light scenarios. For the landscape photographer, whatever format you use (film, digital, video or cinema), this filter is almost a necessity as it allows you to maintain creative control in a challenging bright environment whilst maintaining correct exposure.
For those who love soft and atmospheric creative looks in their images, this filter can produce motion blur when used with waterfalls, fast-moving objects (cars, etc.) and even natural subjects such as birds in flight or animals running. Some even use them on their iPhone to capture interesting images when a traditional camera is not at hand.
Tiffen uses the highest quality water white glass which contains an anti-glare and anti-reflection coating. This glass reduces the greenish tint sometimes common in standard glass. Water white glass allows precise colour transmission. It is transparent to the eye and is characterised by an optically pure composition that provides the highest possible image quality.
Tiffen, the industry leader in filters, proudly manufactures its filters in the United States and supports its products with a robust 10-year warranty.
Neutral density filters have four main uses
- Enables the use of slow shutter speeds with high ISO settings; creates spectacular images with motion blur in subjects such as waterfalls, clouds or cars
- Allows greater creative control by enabling the use of wider apertures, which helps to separate subjects from their background
- Reduces the amount of light entering the lens - enables the use of slower shutter speeds with higher ISO settings on digital cameras, high-speed film, video and cinema cameras
- It is always challenging to use film, digital or video cameras in high-brightness conditions such as snow, sand or other very bright scenes, as these conditions can easily cause overexposure. This filter eliminates the challenge of recording images in these conditions by allowing the photographer to control correct exposure whilst maintaining creative control
Superior quality
- The biggest Hollywood film studios rely on Tiffen filters for their multi-million-dollar productions. Superior quality and design make Tiffen the overwhelming choice of filmmakers, professional photographers and even NASA
- Tiffen has also received an Emmy from the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for its engineering excellence
