The Tiffen DV Select 3 kit contains everything you need to achieve that spectacular outdoor photograph or landscape portrait.
A Tiffen Solid 0.6 (2 stops) neutral density filter has several uses and offers the possibility of achieving otherwise impossible results. It allows the photographer to adjust exposure without affecting colour balance. An ND filter appears grey and reduces the amount of light reaching either a digital camera sensor or the film plane of a traditional camera.
A neutral density filter is used to create unusual special effects such as capturing the "blur" of rippling water from a waterfall or the swirling effect of city traffic. As it allows the use of slower shutter speeds in full light, it becomes possible to create these special effects that would normally not be possible to capture without the filter. And, as it can also help control your depth of field, it allows you to photograph with wider apertures. Ultimately, its value lies in helping to prevent overexposed and washed-out images taken in full light.
Determining which neutral density filter gives ideal results for a given lighting situation requires knowledge, experience and a collection of such filters. Choose the filter strength that adjusts the lighting to remain within the exposure latitude (greatest difference between light/dark values) that still shows detail in the digital or film medium being used.
 
Black ProMist
is part of the Hollywood FX filter series. The Black Pro-Mist creates moderate image softening and moderate to strong light highlights, but with less lightening effect in shadow areas.

Part of the difference between an ordinary photograph and an "excellent" photograph lies in attention to detail - and with Tiffen's Pro-Mist filter series, you can adjust your images just enough to set them apart from the rest. Generally, the 2-stop value (ND 0.6 - the clear part of the filter lets through 4 times more light compared to the darkest part) effectively compensates for situations of medium bright sky against the foreground, and the soft transition applies more often to a scene than the hard transition.
 
Circular polariser
Tiffen's polarising filters are used to select which light rays enter your lens. They can eliminate unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colours by providing better contrast. The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and modified by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies according to the rotation of the filter and its orientation relative to the sun.
Tiffen's ColorCore glass is produced by a process that involves permanently laminating the filter material between two pieces of optical glass that are polished to tolerances of one ten-thousandth of an inch, then mounted in precision aluminium rings
 
Neutral density filters have four main uses
- To allow the use of slow shutter speeds, particularly with high ISOs, to record the movement of subjects such as waterfalls, clouds or cars
- To reduce depth of field by allowing the use of wider apertures, which helps separate subjects from their background
- To decrease the effective ISO of high-sensitivity films (above ISO 400) and allow their use outdoors in bright situations
- sand or other bright scenes that could cause overexposure
