The Crown Formatt 6.6x6.6" optical glass neutral density (ND) 1.2 HD Schott-Desag B270 filter has been specially formulated following extensive research into new applications for A.C.T. molecular dyes. The filters offer a more neutral grey without the specular effects of the particulate coatings of current neutral density and graduated neutral density filters, allowing the user more precise control.

Formatt, a company with three generations of experience in professional filter manufacturing, produces each filter to the highest technical standards. The finest materials, combined with cutting-edge production technology, have achieved a level of optical excellence unmatched elsewhere.

- Formatt HD neutral density filters, solid and graduated, are available in all popular screw-on round sizes and all standard square sizes
- All Formatt filters feature a unique frame that provides maximum protection against chips, surface scratches and facilitates handling and cleaning
- With the filter description on the top of the frame, filter identification is also much easier, particularly when filters are stored in cases on location
- Formatt HD neutral density filters have the same densities and f-stops as Kodak Wratten standards
- Formatt neutral density filters meet the needs of many directors of photography and cinematographers who feel it is important to shoot with the widest possible aperture to minimise depth of field, particularly with HD; In response to professional demand for an optically correct and flawless neutral density filter for HD, Formatt has designed its HD neutral density filters, which are the ultimate solution for enhancing colour contrast and are ideal for normal light reduction

Neutral density filters have four main uses

- To enable the use of slow shutter speeds, particularly with fast films, to record movement of subjects such as waterfalls, clouds or cars
- To decrease depth of field by allowing the use of wider apertures, which helps to separate subjects from their background
- To decrease the effective ISO of fast films (above 400 ISO) and allow their use outdoors in bright situations
- To enable cinema and video cameras (which have fixed shutter speeds) to film subjects like snow, sand or other bright scenes that could cause overexposure

Neutral density factors

- ND.3 (exposure adjustment = 1 stop, reduces ISO 1/2)
- ND.6 (exposure adjustment = 2 stops, reduces ISO 1/4)
- ND.9 (exposure adjustment = 3 stops, reduces ISO 1/8)
- ND1.2 (exposure adjustment = 4 stops, reduces ISO 1/16)
