The Crown Formatt 6.6x6.6" optical glass neutral density (ND) 1.2 HD Schott-Desag B270 filter has been specially formulated following extensive research into new applications for A.C.T. molecular dyes. Neutral density filters have four main uses

- To enable the use of slow shutter speeds, particularly with fast films, to record movement of subjects such as waterfalls, clouds or cars
- To decrease depth of field by allowing the use of wider apertures, which helps to separate subjects from their background
- To decrease the effective ISO of fast films (above 400 ISO) and allow their use outdoors in bright situations
- To enable cinema and video cameras (which have fixed shutter speeds) to film subjects like snow, sand or other bright scenes that could cause overexposure
