The Tiffen 105mm Coarse Thread Linear Polarising Filter helps reduce reflections and glare by filtering light that has been polarised by reflection from a non-metallic surface.

Sunlight becomes naturally partially polarised when it reflects off electrons in air molecules, causing the light to scatter as haze.

A polarising filter arranges and filters this directionally polarised light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing much of this light to be absorbed.

This results in a noticeable reduction in reflections and reflections from non-metallic surfaces and an increase in the saturation of skies and foliage.

A linear polariser differs from a circular polariser only in the absence of a quarter-wave plate that enables the use of autofocus and exposure functions.

Linear polarisers are better suited for use with manual cameras, such as view cameras, which do not rely on internal mechanisms to determine focus or metering settings.

Tiffen filters are manufactured using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass, grinding it flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, and then mounting it in precision metal rings.
