Sunlight becomes naturally partially polarised when it reflects off electrons in air molecules, causing light to scatter which appears as haze.

A polarising filter organises and filters this polarised light directionally perpendicular to the reflected light, allowing absorption of much of this light.

This results in a noticeable reduction in reflections and glare on non-metallic surfaces as well as increased saturation of skies and vegetation.
